State Level Seminar Recent trends in physical sciences RTPS-25 -- 27.03.2025
Recent Trends in Physical Sciences (RTPS’25)
The Department of Physics, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi, organized the State Level Seminar on Recent Trends in Physical Sciences (RTPS’25) on 27th March 2025.
The primary objective of this seminar was to bring together experts, researchers, and students to explore and discuss recent developments in physical sciences. The event aimed to enhance knowledge sharing, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and provide a platform for young researchers to gain insights from experienced professionals. Through thought-provoking technical sessions and discussions, the seminar sought to inspire scientific curiosity, promote innovation, and bridge the gap between academic research and industrial applications.
Technical Session - I
The first technical session was delivered by Dr. S. Stephen Rajkumar Inbanathan, Associate Professor, Postgraduate & Research Department of Physics, The American College, Madurai. He presented an engaging talk on “Neutrinos: The Exclusive Ghost Particles of the Universe”. His session provided deep insights into neutrinos, their properties, and their role in astrophysical phenomena.
Dr. Inbanathan elaborated on the elusive nature of neutrinos, their fundamental role in the universe, and their interactions with matter. He explained how neutrinos are detected using large-scale underground experiments and discussed their significance in understanding the origins of the universe. The session covered groundbreaking research in neutrino physics, highlighting recent discoveries and experimental advancements. Participants were captivated by the discussion on how neutrinos could unlock the secrets of dark matter and the evolution of galaxies.
Technical Session - II
The second technical session was conducted by Dr. S. R. Balaji, Assistant Professor of Physics, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi. His topic, “Breakthrough Methods for Decoding the Secrets of Single Crystals and Nanomaterials”, provided valuable insights into the latest developments in crystallography and nanotechnology, sparking significant interest among the attendees.
Dr. Balaji explained the fundamental principles behind single crystal growth and characterization techniques, emphasizing their importance in various technological applications. He elaborated on the role of nanomaterials in modern physics research and industrial applications, highlighting their unique properties and potential uses in electronics, medicine, and energy storage. The session included discussions on recent breakthroughs in the synthesis and analysis of nanomaterials, making it an engaging and informative experience for all participants.
VALEDICTORY SESSION
A dedicated feedback session was conducted, where participants shared their experiences and expressed their appreciation for the knowledge gained through the seminar. Certificates were distributed to all the participants. Dr. N. Rathna, Assistant Professor of Physics, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource persons, participants, and organizing team for their efforts in making the seminar a grand success. The seminar concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem.
The State Level Seminar on Recent Trends in Physical Sciences (RTPS’25) proved to be an enriching and interactive platform, fostering academic discussions on cutting-edge research in physics with 106 participants. The engaging technical sessions, valuable insights from expert speakers, and active participation of attendees contributed to the overall success of the event. The Department of Physics looks forward to organizing more such events in the future to promote scientific knowledge and research.
