Youth Awakening Day - 13.10.2023

In view of the celebration of the birthday of Bharat Ratna Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam as Youth Awakening Day, Department of Physics organized the Interdepartmental Essay and Elocution Competition on the topic “Space Tourism: Bridging the gap between Science Fiction and Reality” and “The Future of Space Exploration: Challenges and Opportunities” respectively. The Venue of the program was A.P.C.V. Mahalaxmiammal Memorial Block of our college premises at the time of 12.00 P.M. Dr. M. Pushpagavalli, Assistant Professor of Tamil, A.P.C Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi was invited as the Judge of the Essay competition and Ms. M. Maheswari, Assistant Professor of Tamil, A.P.C Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi was acted as the Judge of the Elocution competition. 25 students from various departments were actively participated in this competition.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL SKETCHES COMPETITION - 14.09.2023.

Department of Physics organized the Interdepartmental Sketches Competition on the theme “Self – reliant India’s Chandrayaan” on 14.09.2023 in view of Chandrayaan Utsav.Dr. C. Stella Packiam, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, A.P.C Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi was invited as the Judge for the program. 31 students from various departments were actively participated in this competition. The winners of the competition are R. Siva santhiya of III B.Sc., Mathematics and R. Gayathri of II B.Sc., Computer Science won the I & II prize.

GUEST LECTURE - 11.09.2023

Department of Physics has organized a Subject related Guest Lecture on the topic “Frontiers of Ultrasonic Technology in Research and Applications” on 11.09.2023. Dr. P. Padmavathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi has delivered a talk.

Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial Day - 27.07.2023

In Commemoration of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial Day a Motivational talk was arranged for Physics and Chemistry (I- year) department students on 27.07.2023 which was organized by Department of Physics. Around ninenty-five students took part in the Program. Dr. T. Buvaneswari, Assistant Professor of Tamil, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi motivates the students with the life history of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam along with his achievements. The topic of the program was “Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – Vision and Mission”. In addition to the motivational talk the video of Chandrayan- 3 launching and the aim of the Spacecraft was explained to the students by Mrs. R. Suya Padhra Haridha, Head & Assistant Professor of Physics. The students actively participated in the Program.

INTRADEPARTMENTAL QUIZ COMPETITION - Entrepreneurship and Innovation (21.07.2023)

Department of Physics organizes an Intradepartmental Quiz competition on the topic “Entrepreneurship and Innovation” in association with Institution’s Innovation Cell (IIC) on 21.07.2023 Mrs. S. Sankaravadivu, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, acted as Quiz master for the program.

Student Induction Program ( 26.06.2023 - 30.06.2023)

The orientation Programme for the year 2023 - 2024 was conducted on 23/07/2023 for I year students and parents. Our Principal in charge, Dr. K.Subbulakshmi kind heartedly welcomed the students and parents for the program. Mrs.R.Suya Padhra Haridha, Head of the department gave instructions regarding to extension activities, additional courses and cultural events to the gathering. After the orientation session, the students and parents had the campus visit . On 26/07/2023 the freshers were cheerfully welcomed by their seniors with chocolates and flowers, as a token of love. On the very same day, Dr. M. Muthukani, Assistant Professor of Zoology gave a talk on Eco-consciousness. They were asked to involve themselves with nature not against to it. On 27/06/2023, Dr. R. Anista, Director of Physical Education addressed the students about health awareness. They were also asserted to maintain their own health in a hygienic manner. On 28/06/2023, Dr. P. Yogeswari Nithya, Assistant Professor of Chemistry took over the session on Youth and Social responsibilities. She stressed about the role of students in personal development and how to develop a sense of commitment to the community. On 30/06/2023, Ms. P. Sankaravadivoo, Assistant Professor of Physics took the students to library and insisted the essential habit of reading among students. Also Miss. B. Sri Prasanna Devi, Junior Executive Documentation, Black Stone Shipping, Thoothukudi who was an Alumna (Batch 2018-2021 Batch) of our department invited as the Chief guest of the Student induction program. She gave a tremendous motivation talk to the freshers on the topic “Being A Winner”.

Department of Physics has organized a One day National Seminar on the topic “Recent Trends in Physical Sciences (RTPS’23)” on 11.03.2023. Dr. T. Daniel, Assistant Professor of Physics, M V J College of Engineering (Autonomous) Bengaluru & Dr. P. Sumithraj Premkumar, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Physics, St. John’s College, Palayamkottai has delivered a talk.

Workshop - (06.03.2023)

Department of Physics in association with Institution’s Innovation Council and APCM Academy has organize One day Workshop on the topic “Innovations in Energy Conservation for Sustainable Future” on 06.03.2023.Technical Session-I was handled by Dr.J.Judes, Assistant Professor of Physics (Senior Grade) and Head, Department of Science and Humanities ,University V.O.C. College of Engineering, Anna University: Thoothukudi campus has delivered a talk and Technical Session-II was started at 1.00 P.M. which was delivered by Dr. N.Rathna, Assistant Professor of Physics, A.P.C. College for Women, Thoothukudi on the topic “Energy Audit”. In her talk she discussed about types and phases of energy audit and how to calculate the energy efficiency of our domestic appliances and the importance of energy audit.
