National Science Day 10th February 2026

The Department of Physics,organized the *National Science Day* Celebration on *10th February 2026* at the Computer Block. The theme of the program was “ *Artificial Intelligence in Physical Sciences.”* The Chief Guest, *Dr. R. Felista Sugirtha Lizy* , Assistant Professor, PG Department of Computer Science, A. P. C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi, delivered a special lecture on the applications of Artificial Intelligence in Physical Sciences. She explained the role of AI in research,  modern technological advancements. Our Physics Students actively participated in the program using the *government-provided laptops* to explore AI tools and digital learning resources. The interactive session motivated students to understand interdisciplinary applications of Artificial Intelligence in Physics.

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME

The Department of Physics organized an educational outreach programme for the Class 12 students of Prasanna Matriculation School on 06.01.2026. The main objective of the program is to create awareness about the scope and importance of Physics and motivating students to pursue higher studies and careers in the field. The program aimed to help students understand how Physics plays a vital role in science, technology, and everyday life. The program began with a motivational talk given by Dr. N. Rathna, Assistant Professor of Physics of the college. She focusing on reducing students’ fear of Physics and encouraging them to develop a positive attitude toward the subject. The importance of conceptual understanding, logical thinking, and curiosity in learning Physics was emphasized. NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION DAY

In commemoration of National Energy Conservation Day, the Department of Physics in association with Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL)organized Special Lecture and Interdepartmental Competitions on the theme “Energy Conservation for a Sustainable and Net Zero Future” on 18th December 2025 at 10.00 A.M. Mrs. Remona, Assistant Engineer, Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL)Thoothukudi acted as a Resource Person. The objective of the program is to create awareness among the students about the importance of energy conservation and efficient use of energy resources. TWO DAYS INTERDEPARTMENTAL WORKSHOP

The Department of Physics of A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi in collaboration with Vienstereoptic, Thoothukudi organized a two-day workshop on “System Doctor: Hardware Repair, Maintenance and Networking” on 25th and 26th September 2025 at Dr. A. L. Mudhaliar Hall. The workshop aimed to provide students with practical knowledge in computer hardware servicing, system maintenance, and networking. The primary objectives of the workshop were to enhance participants' technical skills by offering insights into diagnosing and repairing hardware issues, while also emphasizing the importance of regular system maintenance to prolong the life of devices and improve performance. The Department of Physics celebrated Teacher’s Day on 8th September 2025 at 01.30 P.M. in the VM Block, APCM Campus of this academic Year 2025-2026 with great enthusiasm to honor and appreciate the invaluable contributions of teachers in shaping the future of students. The program commenced with a prayer song, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Akshaya Prabha, Student of II B.Sc Physics. The main objective of the event is to highlight the significance of the day, which marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a great teacher, philosopher, and former President of India. Students expressed their gratitude by delivering speeches, sharing poems, and presenting cultural performances dedicated to their teachers. In commemoration of National Nanotechnology Day, the Department of Physics organized a Poster Making Competition on the topic “Nanotechnology for a Better Tomorrow” on 17th September 2025 at 1.30 P.M. The program aimed to highlight the applications of nanotechnology in fields such as medicine, electronics, energy, environment, and sustainable development. Dr. T. Sakthika, Assistant Professor of Zoology, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi acted as a Judge. The objective of the program is to create awareness among students and the public about nanoscience and nanotechnology and to highlight applications of nanotechnology in healthcare, energy, environment, electronics, and sustainable development. 22 enthusiastic students participated and presented colourful, innovative posters showcasing the applications and future scope of nanotechnology.
