*Renewable Energy Day Commemoration* The Department of Physics commemorated Renewable Energy Day on 20 August 2026 by organizing a Special Lecture and Poster Making Competition on the theme “Renewable Energy: Lighting the Way to a Better World.” Dr. V. Sorna Lakshmi, Assistant Professor of Botany, acted as the Resource Person and delivered an informative lecture highlighting the importance of renewable energy and sustainable practices. 32 students participated in the poster making competition, showcasing their creativity and awareness of renewable energy. Dr. S. Sankaravadivu, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, acted as the Judge for the competition, and the best poster was selected and awarded.

Industrial Visit to Maris Associates Private Limited, Thoothukudi The Department of Physics organized an Industrial Visit to Maris Associates Private Limited, Thoothukudi, on 18.08.2026, with 25 students and 3 faculty members. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to industrial production processes and the applications of Physics in industry. Students gained insights into production methods, machinery, measurements, energy utilization, and quality control. The interaction with industry personnel helped them connect their theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial practices. The visit was an enriching and valuable learning experience, enhancing students’ practical knowledge, industrial awareness, and understanding of career opportunities.

Astronomical Observation and Photography Competition The Department of Physics (UA), A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi, organized an Astronomical Observation and Photography Competition on 13.08.2026 from 4.30 a.m. to 5.30 a.m., with the participation of 50 students. Students observed the six-planet alignment involving Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter and captured the celestial event using mobile phones and cameras. The programme aimed to create awareness and interest in astronomy, develop scientific observation and photography skills, and connect classroom learning with real-time celestial observations. Students were also encouraged to share astronomical information with the public and promote wider participation. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial Day -Intradepartmental Elocution and Art Competition on 27 July 2026

The Department of Physics, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi, organized an Intradepartmental Elocution and Art Competition on 27 July 2026 at 2.25 p.m. in the VM Block to commemorate Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial Day. A total of 20 students actively participated in the event. The competition included English Elocution on the topic "My Dream India – Inspired by Dr. Kalam," Tamil Elocution on "அறிவியலும் தொழில்நுட்பமும் இந்தியாவின் எதிர்காலம்," and a Painting Competition on the theme "My Dream of India." The participants delivered inspiring speeches and presented creative paintings reflecting Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's vision for a developed India. The programme encouraged students to improve their communication skills, creativity, confidence, and patriotism. The event concluded successfully with the appreciation of all the participants, and the winners were congratulated for their excellent performance.

Special Lecture cum Hands-on Training Programme -International Asteroids Day on 30 June 2026

*The Department of Physics* , A.P.C.Mahalaxmi College for Women,Thoothukudi, organized a *Special Lecture cum Hands-on Training* Programme to commemorate *International Asteroids Day on 30 June 2026* at Dr. M.Varadharajan Hall.The programme featured two Resource Persons: *Dr.V.Muthusamy, State Executive Member, Tamil Nadu Astronomy and Science Society (TASS), Tirunelveli* , and *Dr.Swamy Doss* . They delivered an informative lecture on " *Asteroids and Planetary Defense and Astronomical Telescope Handling* ." They explained the importance of asteroids, planetary defense, and demonstrated the handling of astronomical telescopes. The hands-on training session provided students with practical experience in using astronomical telescopes. A total of *90 students* actively participated in the programme.
