Astronomical Observation and Photography Competition The Department of Physics (UA), A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi, organized an Astronomical Observation and Photography Competition on 13.08.2026 from 4.30 a.m. to 5.30 a.m., with the participation of 50 students. Students observed the six-planet alignment involving Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter and captured the celestial event using mobile phones and cameras. The programme aimed to create awareness and interest in astronomy, develop scientific observation and photography skills, and connect classroom learning with real-time celestial observations. Students were also encouraged to share astronomical information with the public and promote wider participation. The programme successfully enhanced scientific curiosity and encouraged students and the public to observe and document celestial events through photography. The best photographs were proposed to be recognized with attractive rewards and special prizes.
